Russia’s Overnight Missile and Drone Strike Devastates Kyiv, Killing Six Including Child
In a brutal overnight assault on Thursday, Russia struck Ukraine’s capital with missiles and drones, killing at least six civilians—among them a 6-year-old boy—and injuring over 52 others, according to Ukrainian officials.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, confirmed that a section of a nine-story residential building was completely destroyed, with rescue teams scrambling to pull survivors from the rubble. Authorities warned that the casualty count may still rise as search operations continue.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack a deliberate strike on civilians.
“An entire section of a residential building was demolished. People are under the rubble. Emergency services are working nonstop,” he said on Telegram. “This is how Russia responds to our calls for peace shared with the US and Europe.”
Widespread Destruction Across the Capital
At least 27 locations in Kyiv were targeted, with severe destruction reported in the Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. Images from the scene showed thick smoke rising from damaged buildings, debris scattered across courtyards, and personal belongings blown into nearby trees. Despite police efforts to secure the area, residents rushed back to recover what they could from their shattered homes.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko visited the devastated areas to assess the damage and coordinate aid.
Nationwide Assault: Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy Also Hit
President Zelenskyy revealed that Russian forces also targeted multiple regions, including Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv. Over 300 drones and eight missiles were reportedly launched across the country in a widespread escalation of hostilities.
The Ukrainian air force attempted to intercept the incoming strikes, but several managed to break through, causing destruction in both urban and rural zones.
Global Tensions Rise Amid US Peace Deadline
On the diplomatic front, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning, reducing the timeline for progress in peace negotiations. Initially giving Russian President Vladimir Putin 50 days, Trump has now set an August 8 deadline for meaningful developments—or face sweeping U.S. sanctions and tariffs.
Western leaders have expressed growing frustration, accusing Putin of deliberately stalling U.S.-led peace efforts while intensifying military operations to seize more territory.
As Ukraine endures another wave of violence, international pressure mounts for a swift resolution—yet hopes for peace remain fragile in the face of escalating attacks.
